Living in Old Town is fun, pretty and convenient! Walk to the lake North avenue beach and trails a couple blocks, Lincoln Park Zoo 2 blocks, Millenium Park is just over 2 miles away, Interstate 90 is 1 mile away, The River walk is less than 2 miles and the list goes on. There are so many great restaurants here in Old Town from casual to fancy, depending on what suits you at the time. I have compiled a list of some of my favorites and some that might someday be yours. I won’t post all the favorite meals at each as you can look at the menu’s and choose your own.
Optima Chicago – A new place in town. An interesting menu with something for everyone. Dress up a little. It is a nice place. Great for drinks and appetizers, dinner and to top it off they have live music or DJ many nights. The Marquee room on the second level has a piano bar that is interactive and fun!
Corcoran’s – A fun bar/grill. A great ambiance, casual and quaint. They serve lunch and dinner with specials throughout the week. Their fish and chips are great along with their sandwiches. A great place to stop in after a show or event.
Topo Gigio – Italian with a modern, Tuscan style approach. A nicer place with a very Tuscan feel. The food is so fresh, the fish is always perfectly prepared, the pasta and sauce is amazing. They have a cozy garden area for summertime seating and also seating on the sidewalk for a little more lively view.
Two Lights Seafood & Oyster – Another new place in the neighborhood. This restaurant feels like you are on the east coast somewhere with a menu full of delectable choices. Something for everyone. The flavors of their dishes are each very unique. The cocktails and wine selection make it a perfect meal or place for cocktails and a light bite.
LG’s bar / Lady Gregory – One of my favorite go to’s when I am looking for an easy, quieter place moderately priced. It is a couple years old and has a lot of cozy places to sit including seating on the sidewalk weather permitting. The menu is not extensive but it seems to satisfy everyone I have visited with. The staff is always super friendly and you never feel rushed to leave. They also have a nice vegan menu. They are also dog friendly 🙂
Broken English – All the Mexican food you love with a twist. They add interesting ingredients to all their food and it tastes fantastic! A little loud if you are looking for a quiet place but a lot of fun with great drinks and Ambiance. Outdoor patio for nice days and dog friendly. Open late!
Glunz Tavern – An Old Town Classic. Established in 1888 and re-established in 2012. So charming and inviting. Serving breakfast, lunch dinner, small plates, cheese boards, desserts and a great wine and cocktail selection. I was in there on a Saturday night last and they were playing Salsa? A friendly place with great food and drinks with outdoor seating and open late.
Orzo’s – An old time favorite open for over 40 years. Old Italian ambiance with sidewalk seating and an outdoor garden area for dining and another bar in the back which hardly anyone even knows about. A quiet place to visit if you want to be tucked away from the noise from busy Wells street. The food is all good along with the pizza for something casual. Their Gnocchi with Vodka sauce is one of my favorites. They also have specials almost every night with friendly staff.
Kamehachi – One of my favorite Sushi restaurants anywhere. They have a great selection and everything is made to perfection. The rolls don’t fall apart and they take great pride in everything they prepare. A great place for a date, family dinner, friends, anything. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Make reservations for sure if going on a Friday or Saturday night.
Twin Anchors – Best place for Ribs! Located in a quaint part of the neighborhood. Twin Anchors is in an historic Old Town building that was built in 1881. Founded in 1932 it is one of the oldest restaurants in the city of Chicago. This was one of Frank Sinatra’s favorite restaurants and is visited by many famous people. Tucked back in the neighborhood and not somewhere you’ll pass by and stop unless you are visiting a local 🙂
